FAQs about digital marketing

What is digital marketing?

Digital marketing is marketing with digital media as opposed to using traditional media like direct mail and newspapers. But not just that...

So, I should ask then, what is “marketing”?

Put as simply as possible: Marketing is leading the marketplace to value the distinctive benefits your business offers as the best possible solution for their needs.

So, is it like traditional advertising, except through computers, then?

Not exactly. First of all, advertising is only one component of marketing. Second, while people are resistant to being advertised to in general, they are particularly resistant to the interruption of unwanted ads on digital media, where they have more power. Ad-blockers can render advertising messages invisible. Or people can simply click away to another website.

So, if advertising doesn’t work well on the web, how do you market there?

Once you realize your potential customers are more in the driver’s seat travelling on their media highways, you can use that to your advantage, especially since your competitors may not realize it yet.

Ok, I’m all ears- how do you use people’s aversion to being advertised to online to your advantage?

The internet has become a powerful tool for researching buying decisions for many people. One study showed 81% of shoppers researched online before buying. So, you can market better by creating the research information your prospective buyers are already looking for. And, if you do it right, you can teach them how to revere the special benefits only your company offers and become the preeminent choice in their minds.

How do I know what web users are researching so we can create that information?

You can learn the intricacies of web marketing research- things like keyword research and social media sentiment research, etc, etc . . . or you can hire an internet consulting agency to help with that. A good internet consulting agency will find out what your potential customers are asking the internet and create understandable reports that empower your company to be the one that gives them that information. We’d like to think 5th Level Web is a very good agency for that purpose.

But how do we then create that content? We don’t know how to do video production. We don’t have graphic artists or writers. But we are experts at what we do!

A good consulting agency will create content that leverages your expertise in a way that resonates with your marketplace. They will find out how customers interact with your business and how you solve their problems, then package that as the best answers possible to the questions prospective customers ask when they search the web. Again, we’d like to think 5th Level Web is a very good internet consulting agency for that purpose.

This seems very different from traditional advertising!

It is. And it is alien to many business leaders, who are used to the old way. The question is, can you be bold and forward thinking as a leader in your marketplace in order to reap the benefits of greatly increased sales and market share?

There is only one good answer to that questions, isn't there?
